"The Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) provides a wealth of information and data on alternative and renewable fuels, advanced vehicles, fuel-saving strategies, and emerging transportation technologies. This site features interactive tools, calculators, and mapping applications to aid in the deployment of these fuels, vehicles, and strategies. The AFDC functions as a dynamic online hub, providing information, tools, and resources for transportation decision makers seeking efficient alternatives that diversify energy sources and help businesses and communities make wise choices. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) launched the AFDC in 1991 in response to the Alternative Motor Fuels Act of 1988 and the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. It originally served as a repository for alternative fuel vehicle performance data. Since that time, the AFDC has evolved to become an indispensable resource for fleets, fuel providers, policymakers, cities, states, Clean Cities and Communities coalitions, and others working to improve efficiency, cut costs, reduce emissions in transportation, and plan for the future. To keep pace with the rapidly evolving transportation arena, the AFDC is meticulously reviewed annually by subject matter experts consulting with industry leaders and innovators to provide the latest data, publications, case studies, tools, and information."
