Share of people who recently got tested for HIV in Belgium 2008-2018

In 2018, just under five percent of Belgians, aged 15 and over, had been screened for HIV during the last 12 months. Whilst similar figures were found in 2008, the share of Belgians screened for HIV was higher in 2013. In most European countries, the prevention of HIV revolves around three aspects: the use of condoms, screen testing, and treatment. To put these figures into perspective, in 2018, one out of four Belgians had undergone a single HIV screening in their entire lifetime.
