Minutes of meeting: IFLA Regional Council, 25 August 2023

The first meeting of the Regional Council 2023-2025 was held after WLIC 2023 in-person, in Rotterdam. Items discussed during this meeting include welcome by the Regional Council Chair, including refresher on the role of the Regional Council, followed by introductions from the new Regional Council members. Also, a handover was presented by the previous Regional Council. Subsequently, forward-planning discussions took place and reports were requested from each region around the below different themes: the state of the library sector, the LGBTQ+ community, and children and youth in plans for inclusion and reading promotion. Future action planning was also discussed around advocacy, supporting global outreach, and overseeing and enabling the work of the Regional Division Committees (including cooperation with other units). Regarding planning, a draft Regional Division Committee Action Plan template was presented. Modalities of working (planning and performing work) were discussed. Finally, the next in-person meeting of the RC in December was discussed.
