The dataset encompassed several key components that were instrumental in investigating the study's research objectives. Firstly, it included measurements of the BMI (Body Mass Index) of the participating children. Understanding this relationship was a central aspect of the research, given the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents around the world. To assess the academics of the participants, the researchers carried out assessments of their mathematics performance. This assessment was carried out through a comprehensive test consisting of 20 arithmetic equations. In addition to these measures, the data set also included the results of the Flanker inhibitory control test. This specific test was developed to assess children's ability to control impulses and maintain focus.
To draw meaningful conclusions from the dataset, the research team conducted several statistical analyses, including Spearman correlation tests and hierarchical multiple linear regression. Additionally, they employed mediation analyzes to explore whether inhibitory control served as a mediator in the complex interaction between BMI and mathematics performance.
