This series consists of volumes detailing summary information about persons appointed Justices of the Peace. Entries detail the name, address and occupation of the Justice, date and age on appointment, the bailiwick (legal area) and court attended as presiding Magistrate. A remarks column also details particulars relating to deaths or resignations which occurred during the active use of the register. Related Records Documentation relating to a Justice's appointment may be found in other sources, notably VPRS 7744 Staff Appointment Books and the Victorian Government Gazette. Papers were also originally included in VPRS 266 Inward Registered Correspondence.
