Freshwater Picocyanobacteria

Available genomes for freshwater picocyanobacteria are lacking compared to their marine counterparts. This has limited the ability to carry out genomic studies to investigate the evolution and ecological roles of these important strains. This study sequenced these genes to increase the pool of freshwater picocyanobacteria genomes available, identify them phylogenetically, and investigate their metabolic capabilities.
