资源简介:
Photograph of the first athletic club in Los Angeles, located on Spring Street in the west side between Twenty-Ninth Street and Thirty-First Street, 1885. A crowd of men stands in six groups along the front of the club's hall, titled in German: "Turn Verein Hale". To the left, a group of men in light shirts make a human pyramid while more men to the right simply pose, sandwiching the largest group between these two. Above the center group, on the molding over the main door, five men stand, attending a flag. In the windows to either side of this, several men are seated. The club was established in 1854, the hall being later erected in 1875 under the name of Tutonia Concordia. The inscription over the door reads "Out Heil".
