资源简介:
Invasive non-typhoidal Salmonella (iNTS) disease manifesting as bloodstream infection with high mortality is responsible for a huge public health burden in sub-Saharan Africa (sSA), and is associated with severe malnutrition, malaria infection and the spread of HIV. Whereas infections of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) globally lead to mild gastro-intestinal disease, this serovar is the main cause of iNTS disease in sSA. S. Typhimurium in sSA are typically associated with high levels of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), severely complicating treatment in light of the limited availability of antimicrobials. By analysing whole genome sequence data from S. Typhimurium isolates originating from African countries, we have performed a thorough scaled appraisal of the population structure of iNTS disease across many of Africaââ¬â¢s most impacted countries.
