Sweeping, Looping

Richard Serra's "Verb List" of 1967-68 contains terms such as "TO ROLL..TO SPLIT...TO TEAR...". These terms deal with the nature of process. The titles of these two works "Sweeping" and "Looping" relate to this process based text as well as experimenting with the materiality of the brown gummed tape as a mark making material. The drawings originate from a materially based sculptural practice.

These works were selected to be part of the exhibition "Constellations - A Large number of Small drawings" at RMIT Gallery.

These works examine the materiality of archival grade gummed tape as a drawing material and subsequently how the form of the tape influences the nature of the drawing produced. The resultant forms are both embedded within the linear nature of the tape and the initial intention as endowed by the titles of the works. The new knowledge exists in the translation of these forms from activities carried out in materially and conceptually based practices.
