In Arabidopsis, an individually darkened leaf (IDL) initiates senescence much quicker than a leaf from an entirely darkened plant (DP). In this study, we analysed the transcriptomes of leaves in these two darkening setups, to identify the differing metabolic strategies utilised that lead to such different fates. Samples were harvested at noon, i.e. in the middle of the photoperiod, at 0 days (light D0) and after 3 and 6 days of the respective darkening treatments. For all conditions (i.e. Light D0, DP-D3, DP-D6, IDL-D3 and IDL-D6), three biological replicates were used, each of them being a pool of two leaves from independent plants.
