Day Patient Experience Design Investigation

This design research brings together communication design practice with my lived experience as a person requiring regular day surgery to manage ongoing chronic pain. This research is differentiated by its autoethnographic approach, and capacity to apply an empathetic lens to patient experience. This research is timely and pertinent, as outpatient procedures continue to increase in number due to advances in technology and medicine. This research has led to the development of a novel participatory prototyping toolkit design to facilitate the collation of deeper, more meaningful and nuanced feedback from patients in bespoke healthcare waiting environments.
