A two-year metatranscriptomic analysis of rhizosphere biota at the Gi-FACE. rhizosphere metagenome

Extreme climatic events, such as the European summer heatwave of 2003, have been shown to strongly affect plant biomass and terrestrial carbon balance. However, little is known about their impact on the rhizosphere biota, especially in combination with elevated atmospheric CO2 (eCO2). Here, we used metatranscriptomics to gain insights into eCO2 effects on organismal activity simultaneously for all three domains of life (bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes) in rhizosphere soil during the August of 2015 and 2016 at the Giessen Free-Air CO2 Enrichment (Gi-FACE) site.
