In this study we compare genetic and phenotypic variation in two hybridizing frog species that are endemic to the Atlantic Coastal Forest in southeastern Brazil. By comparing mtDNA, genomic SNPs, dorsal morphology, and body size across the hybrid zone, we suggest that allospecific competition among males coupled with female mate choice might act as mechanisms that drive mitonuclear and phenotypic discordances, resulting in an asymmetric introgression in this contact zone.
