资源简介:
Natural geologic methane emissions are a significant and highly uncertain part of the atmospheric methane budget. The largest component of these emissions is from microseepage or the diffuse flux (< 1000 mgCH4/m^2/day) of methane from soils across large areas of hydrocarbon basins. The flux measurements included in this dataset provide data for an area that has not been sampled previously in order to better constrain these emissions. The dataset includes methane, carbon dioxide, and ethane flux measurements across the state of Michigan. Flux measurements were collected with closed, dynamic flux chambers connected to online greenhouse gas analyzers (Picarro/Los Gatos Research). Auxiliary data such as air temperature, air pressure, soil temperature, soil moisture, and wind speed were also collected. Fluxes were calculated via Equation 1 from Kazemi et al., 2021. The d[CH4]/dt is found by taking the average of slopes of 1-minute segments of the concentration stepping every 10 seconds. The uncertainty associated with d[CH4]/dt is the standard error of these slopes. No natural geologic methane emissions were observed in these measurements in the Michigan Basin. The positive fluxes of methane are highly likely to be from modern, biological sources. The code used to produce these calculated fluxes is available at https://github.com/KatieHall1919/Flux-Calculation/tree/main.
