Two mathnawîs by Kalîm.

Both these mathnawîs celebrate the exploits of the emperor Shâhjahân and are very likely parts of one and the same epic poem, viz. the پادشاهنامه (as it is styled on fol. 1a), also called شاهنامه or شاهنشاهنامه, the imperial book, see Khulâṣat-alafkâr, loc. cit.; A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 454, and Rieu ii. p. 687a; comp. also J. Aumer, p. 96. The first begins, on fol. 1b:

بنام خدائى كه از شوق جود

دو عالم عطا كرد وسائل نبود

The second, with the special heading, as it seems, of اقبال شاهجهان (see fol. 118b, l. 7), begins, on fol. 105b:

سخن آن شهنشاه فرمان روا

كه نه تخت چرخش بود زير پا

The poet’s takhalluṣ Kalîm appears several times, for instance, on fol. 104a, margin-column, l. 15:باين لطف امّيد دارم كليم; and on fol. 113a, l. 4: كليم ارچه قادر الخ.

According to the colophon, on fol. 104a: ( نقل خطّ مرزا طالب (ابو طالب sic! for

كليم كه بدست خود نوشته بودند نموده شد, this copy appears to have been made from the poet’s autograph; the first seven leaves seem to be supplied by another hand.
