This dataset primarily comprises annual estimated values of the Trophic State Index (TSI) for global lakes spanning from 2003 to 2023. It was developed to systematically reveal the spatio-temporal evolution patterns of the trophic status of global lake water quality, and to provide scientific support for lake water environment monitoring, eutrophication control and sustainable management. The target users of this dataset mainly include researchers in aquatic environment and ecology, lake management departments, and relevant policy makers. Covering a time span of nearly two decades, the dataset includes all global lakes with an area larger than 10 km², involving disciplines such as environmental science, hydrology, ecology and geographic information science. This dataset contains estimated TSI time series for 14,189 such global lakes from 2003 to 2023, which were generated using machine learning methods. It includes attribute information including lake ID, name, latitude and longitude, as well as the annual estimated TSI values of these lakes from 2003 to 2023. The dataset consists of 14,189 annual lake observation records in the form of attribute tabular data, stored in the file Global Lake TSI Estimated Time Series.xlsx.
