资源简介:
A survey of the data management and curation practices of scientists at six research labs and scientists affiliated with the NSF EarthCube Project was administered from October 1, 2013 - October 31, 2013. 129 scientists started and 107 scientists completed the survey for a 83% completion rate. The survey was an adapted Data Asset Framework survey. The DAF explored the topics such as data types, formats, barriers to data management, backups, and infrastructure to name a few. The DAF has been used by several higeher education institutions (HEIs) in the UK and the USA. The purpose of this survey was to build a better understanding of research data held in select research labs, to inform strategic planning for data management at Florida State University and to inform the wider FSU data management community. Within the scope of this study 'research data' was data that scientists currently held that has been collected and/or used in the course of their research at the Florida State University and/or respective institutions. Research data can be primary data collected by researchers or their research group or secondary data provided by a third party (i.e. existing data). Data may be quantitative or qualitative (e.g. survey results, interview transcripts, databases compiled from documentary sources, images or audiovisual files). Data that scientists 'currently hold' is all research data that they currently store anywhere (i.e., in your 'My Documents' folder, on shared drive, a PC or laptop, cloud storage, on portable media such as CDs/DVDs, external hard drives, paper, or USB.
