资源简介:
English & French translations of the interview with the former dyer AKK who describes the context in which dyeing was practiced in the past: number of active people, seasonal fluctuations, the typical day of a dyer, and the renewal of the dye baths. He then provides details on certain technical aspects: preparation of the zaata (ash added to the dye bath), measuring the proportions of ash and indigo leaves, protection of the vats, dyeing and calendaring of the loincloths. He mimes the soaking of the loincloths with a piece of cloth. To further enhance his description, the investigators show him two photos of a dyeing workshop in Kano (Nigeria), so that he can point out similarities and differences. He describes the size of the vats, the number of people who worked in them and the issues of ownership of the vats, and then the context in which the dyeing activity collapsed. The end of the interview aims to clarify certain aspects: conservation of old dyed loincloths in the village, villages from which the clientele came, obtaining the cotton yarns, the economic profile of the dyers
