Angola (2012): Pretest of Coartem packaging.

With funding from USAID, PSI and Mentor worked in partnership to develop the OUAKULA project that focuses on the activities for malaria treatment in Huambo and the distribution and sale of tests and treatments for the disease. Within the development of the project it became necessary to redesign the package of the drug Coartem ® to add dosages for all ages . The new package is intended to have clear and simple information on dosage, age and proper weight and how to take the medicine . The pre-testing is intended to answer the following questions: Can users identify what is the medicine? Images are appropriate in terms of age, dosage, culture and simplicity ? The instructions are clear enough to the target group? The price of the product is suitable? What is the maximum availability of the product paid for ? 14 Women in rural areas and 10 women in the urban area were interviewed in Huambo and Caála . Each was addressed individually, received a sample package to observe the entire drawing and then answered a series of questions about different features of the package. None of them received prior information about the name of the medication. At the end of the individual sessions, information from the interviews was complemented with a group session to deepen those most relevant points that emerged during the interviews.
