The files in this series consist of correspondence relating to: the setting of school fees, variation in face to face teaching loads; state aid to private schools; official openings and centenary celebrations; adult migrant education; relations with the Commonwealth; financial assistance to students; student publications; reports regarding drug use by secondary students; relations with the New South Wales Teachers Federation; and complaints regarding an allegedly pro-communist text book. The files at [18/1429.4-1437.1] chiefly relate to the Participation and Equity Programme (PEP), which was a Commonwealth funded programme aimed at retaining more pupils in secondary schools. These files consist of correspondence relating to PEP applications and project reports relating to "non-institutional projects" (ie. community based projects), PEP conferences, minutes of the PEP Community Involvement Steering Committee, correspondence concerning the drafting of education legislation, the Pre-School Education Committee of Review, and correspondence concerning budget allocation.
