Keratoacanthoma vs Squamous Cell Carcinoma

This work presents a comparative analysis between well-differentiated cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and keratoacanthoma (KA) in both immunocompetent individuals and kidney transplant recipients. Through a retrospective study including 438 patients and more than 3,300 subsequent biopsies, we investigated clinical differences, risk factors, the impact of immunosuppressive therapy, and the long-term behavior of these tumors. The results identify novel associations between specific immunosuppressants and primary tumor type, and suggest that KA may serve as a marker of better prognosis in both populations. This study contributes to improving diagnostic accuracy and guiding more precise dermatologic follow-up strategies, particularly for high-risk groups such as transplant recipients.
