Taken collectively, "The People" referred to in the book's title include not only the Aleuts, but government officials, businessmen, scientists, natural historians, church officials, and others who represent the human experience on the Pribilof Islands. When human beings are involved they make history, and human history is made up of both tragedy and comedy. The Pribilof Islands' history is full of each. The focus of this book then is on those people who lived on, worked at, or otherwise influenced and shaped the social, political, economic, scientific, and natural history fabric of these Pribilof Islands.
