Various intermittent fasting regimes are popularly being practiced but the scientific understanding for the mechanisms of intermittent fasting remains unclear. Observing the overall transcriptomic changes in specific organs, including heart, may contribute substantially in understanding the diverse effects of intermittent fasting. Our current study further investigate the differential transcriptomic changes in the heart among the different regimes of intermittent fasting as well. Male C57BL/6 mice were exposed to 6 months of intermittent fasting regimes starting from at the age of 3 months-old. Experimental groups were daily intermittent fasting for 12 h (IF12), 16 h (IF16), and every-other-day fasting (EOD) groups with ad libitum feeding (AL) group as a control. On the last fasting day, mice were sacrificed and hearts were surgically collected to extract the total RNA samples. Collected total RNA samples were used for mRNA sequencing using Illumina HiSeq 4000 system.
