A real photographic postcard of Lois Wilson and Chief Yellow Calf "The Covered Wagon", Criterion Theatre, 640 South Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, California, USA, 1923 March 16. At the left is a woman wearing a long dress with long sleeves. She has her hair up in a bun and her left arm extending to the right touching a spotted horse. An American Indian chief sits on top of the horse. He wears a headdress and holds a round feather-decorated shield in his right hand. In the background is an open field. Along the bottom is, "Lois Wilson and Chief Yellow Calf in / 'THE COVERED WAGON' - Criterion Theatre." At the top of the back is, "POSTCARD," and on the top right corner is a blank square for a postage stamp. On the left is a note telling patrons that, if they enjoyed the film, they could address the card to a friend and leave it at the door of the theater and it would be mailed. Below this is a blank line for the name of the addressee and, "I have just seen 'The Covered Wagon' at the Criterion Theatre. It is a wonderful picture of the pioneer days and one that you should see. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did." The artifact was in the program which is item 94.19.1.3 with another postcard which is 94.19.1.30. With only light abrasions at the corners, the object is in good condition.
