Studies involving marine organisms and their secondary metabolites with pharmacological interest has been clearly benefited from the development of DNA sequencing, as well as by new approaches based on bioinformatics. Salinispora bacteria have a great potential for the production of secondary metabolites. Salinispora was recently described on the coast of Brazil, in the Sao Pedro and Sao Paulo Archipelago (SPSPA), located in the Atlantic Ocean about 1000 km away from the Brazilian coast.
