China's wetland carbon and nitrogen stock centres are spatially decoupled and differentially sensitive to climate forcing

This data and code package accompanies the manuscript "China's wetland carbon and nitrogen stock hotspots are spatially mismatched and differentially sensitive to climate forcing" (Peng et al., under review). It provides the pixel-level coupling dataset, the observation databases, all figure-generation code, and all figure source data underlying the analysis of soil organic carbon density (SOCD), total nitrogen density (TND), and their stock-scale ratio (SOCD:TND) across Chinese wetlands. The datasets are derived from random-forest mapping products built on field observations and literature compilations published between January 2000 and February 2025, combined with public environmental covariates. All SOCD:TND calculations use a common valid pixel domain of 515,457 wetland pixels (34.93 Mha) at ~1 km resolution, over four standard soil layers (0–20, 20–40, 40–60, 60–100 cm) and the integrated 0–100 cm profile. Matched stocks in this common domain total 4,873.27 Tg C and 847.00 Tg N; these totals describe the comparison domain, not a national inventory estimate. All values are frozen B5-chain point estimates consistent with the submitted manuscript.
