Soil inorganic nitrogen (N) is the main pool of soil N that plants can utilise. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play a vital role in N assimilation in desert plants; however, their effects on inorganic N assimilation in soils remain poorly understood. To elucidate the roles of AMF in inorganic N assimilation in desert soils, we examined the influence of AMF hyphae on soil metagenome under a hypha-controlled and soil organisms-recovered condition in the Mu Us Desert, northern China.We incubated plant seedlings in AMF-inoculated soil, set two ingrowth core types (hyphal core and no hypha core) to uncover the potential function of AMF hyphae on inorganic N assimilation of desert soil.
