Microbial deversity in Taihu Lake

Microbial-catalyzed reductive dechlorination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is a viable strategy to remedy PCB-contaminated sediments. However, this biodegradation process is largely affected by the indigenous sediment geochemical properties. Tthe inhibitory effects of nitrate on PCB dechlorination and microbial community structures were first investigated in Taihu Lake sediment microcosms. Moreover, biostimulation study was attempted supplementing acetate and lactate.
