Designing and validating SSR markers for vetiver (Chrysopogon zizanioides. L) using de novo assembled genome to aid in the crop breeding

Vetiver is known for its value in preventing soil erosion and the medicinal properties it holds in the essential oil obtained from its root. Rapid breeding of the crop for any trait requires DNA markers to aid in rapid and precise selection of plants. Therefore, de novo sequence of the crop was generated from the Dharani cultivar to design SSR markers.
