Protochlamydia naegleriophila strain KNic is an obligate intracellular bacteria belonging to the Chlamydiales order. This bacterium that naturally infects free-living amoeba of the genus Naegleria and Acanthamoeba is a potential human pathogen. The genome of Protochlamydia naegleriophila strain KNic has been sequenced by Roche/454 GS20 and Illumina GAIIx to obtain a high quality draft. The genome sequence has been completed by incremental PCR-Sanger sequencing-reassembly steps. The complete genome was automatically annotated using GenDB before undergoing biocuration by annotators.
