* This is the current accepted phenotype for immature B cells. Because we used historic data for these analyses, we felt it appropriate to indicate in the text the criteria used in the actual labeling studies, that is, B220+HSA+IgMhiIgDlo. It should be noted that this is unlikely to influence our conclusions, since the pro B subsets are not an immediate progenitor pool to any subsets that might enter the T3 pool, regardless of which model is used.
