Soil samples from Eagle Creek Ranch in northern California were water-screened to
recover organic fragments suitable for radiocarbon analysis. These samples were derived from
stream deposits in four sites along the Trinity River. Botanic components and detrital charcoal
were identified, and potentially radiocarbon datable material was separated. A total of seven
samples were processed for AMS radiocarbon dating. In addition, six pollen samples were
examined from a column in a soil pit located in an apple and pear orchard dating to the 1850's.
