We demonstrate that the impact of low intensity training on maximum sprint speed depends on the time of day and that the use of electrical stimulation to motivate continued running in rodent exercise testing, dramatically alters experimental outcomes. We provide a comprehensive characterization of circadian transcriptome remodeling in response to training. Detailed follow-up analyses revealed specific alterations in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism that support time of day differences in sprint exercise capacity in trained animals.
