The California Office of Statewide health Planning and development (OSHPD) collects inpatient data from licensed hospitals in California. The data consists of a record for each inpatient discharged from a California licensed hospital, including general acute care, acute psychiatric, chemical dependency recovery, and psychiatric health facilities. Items recorded include type of care, demographics (some items are masked to protect privacy and confidentiality), admission details, length of stay, sources of payment, diagnosis, conditions and procedures. because of the amount of data, the study is divided into three separate files; Los Angeles, Southern California, Northern California.
