From July to December 2019, 459 Coilia nasus samples were collected in Yunyang (Pengxi River), Fengjie (Caotang River, Meixi River) and Wushan (Daning River) with three-layer gill nets and ground cages, and the collected samples were taken back to the laboratory for unified analysis. In this study, the scales in the third to fourth rows below the lateral line of the middle axis of Coilia nasus were selected as the age identification materials of the samples of young Coilia nasus (age ≤ 3), and the above scales and vertebrae 5 to 10 were selected as the age identification materials of the samples of old Coilia nasus (age > 3). For sample processing, a fish measuring plate with an accuracy of 0.10 cm and an electronic balance with an accuracy of 0.10 g (yp6001n, Shunyu, Shanghai, China) were used to measure the body length, weight of Coilia nasus，and identify the gender of the samples. The treatment methods of scales and vertebrae were studied by Luo Hongbo and Xie Congxin, respectively.
