As a potential anti-Helicobacter pylori agent, zinc causes bacteriostasis, and this property of zinc is of broad interest to biological investigators. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms by which zinc inhibits the growth of Helicobacter pylori. Here, an RNA sequencing-based investigation of the global regulatory response to zinc revealed that exposure to zinc altered the Helicobacter pylori transcriptional profile in numerous ways.
