The purpose with this study was to map out the personnel policy in private enterprises, that is to map out how private enterprises thinks and acts in connection to recruiting, the caring of and possibly the downsizing of the work force. The units in the study were private Norwegian enterprises with more than ten man-labour years. The selection was drawn from “Det sentrale bedrifts- og foretaksregisteret”. The gross sample 691, the net sample was 167. The manager or the responsible for the staff filled out the questionnaire.
