The main objective of this study is therefore to identify in S. melanotheron the ecophysiological bases of adaptation to an over-salury correlated with climate change. This important objective (Savolainen et al. 2013) touches on both the functional genomics of osmoregulation as well as evolutionary biology in a context of contemporary evolution sensu Hendry & Kinnison (1999) since the over-saline conditions date back about fifty years in these estuaries. The resulting results will contribute to an integrative functional approach explaining the relative performance of individuals, ultimately their fitness in the face of stress (e.g. Dalziel et al. 2009; Storz et al. 2015).
