The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) Entomology Collection was established in 1981 and continues to the present. The collection consists predominantly of material from the Northern Territory, especially the Top End with a smaller component from Central Australia, but
also has a small representation from Indonesia, particularly East Timor. Some extralimital specimens are also held for research, comparison, quarantine and other purposes.
Currently, the MAGNT houses 195 holotypes and over 1300 paratypes of insects. To date, approximately 11,000 specimens in the collection have been databased.
Specimens can be lent to workers at other institutions upon application and the MAGNT also welcomes visiting researchers.
