Replication Data for: STRUCTURE, INVESTMENT CYCLE, AND CRISIS IN THE CAPITAL GOODS INDUSTRY: EVIDENCE FROM BRAZIL (2007–2016)
收藏资源简介:
Purpose: To enable replication of the empirical findings regarding industrial performance reported in the manuscript “STRUCTURE, INVESTMENT CYCLE, AND CRISIS IN THE CAPITAL GOODS INDUSTRY: EVIDENCE FROM BRAZIL (2007–2016)” and to facilitate reuse in studies of industrial economics. Nature and Scope: Sectoral panel dataset for 2007–2016 focused on Brazil’s capital goods industry (CGIB) and its subsectors, integrating national industrial statistics with supporting macroeconomic series. Content: Deflated levels (2010 prices): Gross Value of Industrial Production (GVP/VBP), Industrial Value Added (IVA/VTI), and Industrial Operating Costs (IOC/COI).Ratios and indices: IVA/GVP (productive density), IVA per employed person (productivity proxy), and IOC/GVP; includes \"2010 = 100\" base indexation.Employment: Total number of employed persons (PO) by aggregate manufacturing (C), manufacturing net of CGIB (C-CGIB), and specific CGIB subsectors.Sectoral mapping: Comprehensive classification for Industrials, Machinery & Equipment (ME), Electrical, Telecommunications, and Transport subsectors with CNAE 2.0 references.Support sheets: Deflators (IPA-OG 2010 = 100), real effective exchange rates, and BNDES disbursement series. Origin: Public sources. Industrial statistics derived from the Annual Industrial Survey Enterprise (PIA-Enterprise/IBGE). Macroeconomic series and exchange rates sourced from the World Bank and the Central Bank of Brazil. Real series are calculated in 2010 prices using the IPA-OG deflator. Ethics & Funding: Public data utilized; no human subjects involved and no personally identifiable information (PII) included. No external funding was received for this data collection. JEL: O14; E22; L60; O25. Purpose: To enable replication of the international trade and competitiveness findings reported in the manuscript “STRUCTURE, INVESTMENT CYCLE, AND CRISIS IN THE CAPITAL GOODS INDUSTRY: EVIDENCE FROM BRAZIL (2007–2016)” and to support comparative studies using mirrored trade methodologies. Nature and Scope: Disaggregated international trade dataset (2008–2016) covering Brazil’s capital goods flows with a universe of 243 partner countries, utilizing mirrored FOB/FOB logic for global consistency. Content: Trade flows (BK): Exports, imports, and trade balance results for the aggregate CGIB and its five subsectors (Industrials, ME, Electrical, Telecom, Transport).Competitiveness Indicators: World market share (including the corrected 0.8758% world export share) and normalized sectoral coverage ratios.Trade Structure: Share of capital goods in total Brazilian export and import baskets, including the 2016 export share of 20.9620%.Methodological Comparison: Calculation sheets for CIF/CIF, FOB/CIF, and mirrored FOB/FOB methodologies to validate consistency across reporting sources. Origin: Primary trade data sourced from UN Comtrade. Ethics & Funding: Publicly available trade data; no human subjects or personally identifiable information involved. No external funding was utilized for the development of this database. JEL: F14; L60; O25. Purpose: To enable replication of the shift-share decomposition findings reported in the manuscript “STRUCTURE, INVESTMENT CYCLE, AND CRISIS IN THE CAPITAL GOODS INDUSTRY: EVIDENCE FROM BRAZIL (2007–2016)” and to facilitate the application of design-based identification frameworks in industrial and trade economics. Nature and Scope: Sectoral and trade dataset (2008–2016) focused on Brazil’s capital goods industry (CGIB), operationalizing the shift-share (Bartik) decomposition logic as discussed in Borusyak, Hull, and Jaravel (2022, 2025). It bridges national industrial performance with global demand shocks. Content: Shift-share calculation sheets: Decomposition of aggregate GVP and IVA growth into subsectoral contributions; export growth decomposition into destination-market demand (common shifts) and competitive residuals. Exposure shares and shifts: Base-period shares for 2008 (expansion) and 2014 (crisis) using \"complete share\" adjustments to ensure internal consistency. Primary source data: Deflated industrial series (GVP and IVA) and mirrored FOB/FOB trade flows for major destinations (ARG, USA, MEX, CHL, DEU, PER, CHN, ROW). Origin: Compiled from the Annual Industrial Survey (PIA-Enterprise/IBGE) and UN Comtrade. Macroeconomic parameters and deflators sourced from the Central Bank of Brazil and the World Bank. All real series calculated in 2010 prices using the IPA-OG index. Ethics & Funding: Public data utilized; no human subjects or personally identifiable information (PII) involved. No external funding was received for the development of this specific analytical workbook. JEL: O14; E22; L60; O25; F14.
