Gepotidacin microbiome analysis from Phase II clinical trial

Gepotidacin (GSK2140944) is a first in class bacterial topoisomerase inhibitor for the treatment of uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (uUTI). Phase 2a clinical trials showed complete clearance of infection and symptoms. Metagenomic DNA samples were extracted from the stool (representing gastro-intestinal tract, or GIT), pharyngeal saliva swabs and vaginal swabs of 22 patients at pre-dosing (Day 1), end of dosing (Day 5) and follow-up visit (Day 28) for a total of 141 quality-controlled samples. The goal of this study is to ensure responsible stewardship of Gepotidacin by measuring over body sites and time its impact on the human microbiome composition.
