Islamic Finance - Global

This study traces the evolution, conceptual frameworks and trends in the research of Islamic finance in the global context during the 2016-2025 period. The bibliographic data were identified from Scopus by searching with the keywords “islam*” AND “finance*”. of the 2,369 journal articles remaining after the language, document-type, timeframe, and relevance and duplicate screening, the remaining 2,369 journal articles were retained. Bibliometric performance analysis and science mapping was done with the help of Biblioshiny and VosViewer. The results show that there has been significant publications growth, especially in recent years although the volume of publications has been confined to a narrow range of specialist journals. The conceptual heart of Islamic finance, Islamic banking and Islamic banks, and sukuk, waqf, Islamic social finance, Malaysia and Indonesia are important research streams. In terms of topics, a transition from traditional banking, liquidity and risk-related problems to financial technology, artificial intelligence, sustainability, accountability, financial inclusion and Sustainable Development Goals is shown. The collaboration is solid within the clusters of authors but not very developed as a group of clusters, reflecting some intellectual fragmentation. The study provides a unified framework which brings together the performance, social, conceptual and intellectual structures of the field. It calls for more interdisciplinary and international cooperation and for the development of research in the following areas: digital trust, information governance, green sukuk, maqasid-based sustainability, and the measurable effect of Islamic social finance.
