The Large-scale MR dampers exhibit highly nonlinear behavior at extremely low velocities, as observed in this truck-induced highway bridge vibration application. Existing MR damper models do not adequately capture the observed behavior of low force permanent offsets and nonsymmetric force behavior during sinusoidal displacements. This experiment conducted system identification tests of the MR damper at low velocities. While no low-velocity model was successfully developed within this project, the data is made available here for other researchers to observe and perhaps model this low velocity behavior of the dampers.
