Here, we provide source data that are the base for the literature review and the comparative analysis of peritoneal fibrosis in ray-finned fish. We performed a comprehensive literature search on the incidence of peritoneal fibrosis and then experimentally tested initiation of peritoneal fibrosis in 17 species across the fish tree of life.
