资源简介:
The Ichthyology Collection of the Texas Natural History Collection, a division
of the Texas Memorial Museum at The University of Texas at Austin, dates to the
1950's. The collection currently contains about 25,000 lots (jars), mostly from
freshwaters of Texas, with some marine collections from the Gulf of Mexico
(including the collection formerly maintained at the Marine Science Institute
of the University in Port Aransas). It also contains significant collections
from freshwaters of Mexico (1,268), Costa Rica (1,351), Venezuela (1,964) and
Zambia (992), among other countries.
All records, but not all data, (in particular that regarding loans and specimen
availability, as well as miscellaneous notes) are included in the online
database. Users requiring additional information, or wishing to borrow
specimens, should contact the curator, Dean Hendrickson, directly.
We hope that one benefit of placing this database online will be increased
utilization and feedback from users regarding possible errors. We ask that
users advise us of any questionable records they might detect so that they may
be investigated and corrected. Other comments regarding any aspect of the use
of this online service are also solicited.
More than 25,000 jars of specimens estimated to contain nearly 500,000
specimens. More than half from Texas, representing 180 counties. Entire
database searchable online. Species distribution maps and fish pictures.
