资源简介:
This dataset consists of the data presented in the publication "The role of culture in body trait impressions".Both American and Chinese participants completed the study online through the platform Pavlovia. The experimental protocol had been approved by the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (no. H21084). Informed consent was obtained from all participants. The experiment procedure was the same as in Hu et al. (2018). In each trial, participants viewed a body rendered from two views (frontal and 45° profile) with the trait displayed at the top. They were required to judge whether each of the 30 words on the trait list “applied to the body” by clicking on radio buttons labeled “yes” and “no”. There was no default setting for the radio buttons. When all ratings were entered for the displayed body, participants clicked on “next body” and repeated the above steps until all of the bodies were rated. The experiment was self-paced.To reduce the participant workload, the bodies were divided into two sets, each set containing 35 females and 35 males. Each participant was assigned randomly to rate one set of bodies. Each set comprises a female and a male block. The order of female and male blocks, and the order of bodies within each block, was random. The data were organized in a contingency table, with female and male bodies analyzed separately. In the table, the traits are organized along the columns, and the bodies are organized along the rows. The datafile contains an I(bodies) × J(traits) matrix, of counts tallied across participants.
