The Subjective Aesthetics Dataset was developed by Friedrich Schiller University of Jena. It encompasses 281 Western paintings created by 36 distinguished artists, spanning artistic styles from the 15th through the 20th century. Collected via the Wikimedia Commons platform, the dataset ensures access to high-quality digital reproductions of these works. During its development, non-expert observers were employed to carry out subjective scoring of the paintings to evaluate their aesthetic quality. This dataset is primarily used to investigate the role of color in the aesthetic assessment of paintings, with the goal of identifying image attributes associated with aesthetic perception through computational techniques.
