Challenges Faced by International Students in Foreign Universities: A Comprehensive Study on Academic, Cultural, Mental Health, and Financial Issues

This research paper presents an extensive analysis of the academic, cultural, financial, and mental health challenges experienced by international students across different countries. Using secondary data from UNESCO, OECD, WES, and global higher education studies published between 2017 and 2024, the research identifies patterns and variations in student experiences worldwide. The paper highlights key issues such as language barriers, academic workload difficulties, cultural adaptation struggles, high living costs, tuition expenses, visa restrictions, and rising mental health concerns. The study also evaluates how institutional support systems—including orientation programs, counselling services, financial aid, and culturally sensitive teaching practices—can significantly improve student satisfaction and academic success. Recommendations are provided to help universities, policymakers, and stakeholders better support international learners in global higher education environments.
