These volumes record date of issue; number of certificate issued; name of person to whom issued; address; application number; receipt number; date fee paid; amount paid; and remarks. The second volume (19/18952) notes place and date of birth of the holder in lieu of the "remarks" column. The volumes register the various classes of certificates of competency including: Master, foreign going ship; Master, sail ordinary; Master, coast trade ship; First or Second Class Engineer; Ballast lighter; Master, harbour and river steamers; Compass adjusters; First Mate, coast ship; and Pilots.
