Update:InterimGuidelinesforHealthCareProvidersCaringforPregnantWomenandWomenofReproductiveAgewithPossibleZikaVirusExposure—UnitedStates,2016CDChasupdateditsinterimguidelinesforU.S.healthcareproviderscaringforpregnantwomenduringaZikavirusoutbreak(1).Updatedguidelinesincludeanewrecommendationtoofferserologictestingtoasymptomaticpregnantwomen(womenwhodonotreportclinicalillnessconsistentwithZikavirusdisease)whohavetraveledtoareaswithongoingZikavirustransmission.Testingcanbeoffered2–12weeksafterpregnantwomenreturnfromtravel.ThisupdatealsoexpandsguidancetowomenwhoresideinareaswithongoingZikavirustransmission,andincludesrecommendationsforscreening,testing,andmanagementofpregnantwomenandrecommendationsforcounselingwomenofreproductiveage(15–44years).PregnantwomenwhoresideinareaswithongoingZikavirustransmissionhaveanongoingriskforinfectionthroughouttheirpregnancy.ForpregnantwomenwithclinicalillnessconsistentwithZikavirusdisease,*testingisrecommendedduringthefirstweekofillness.ForasymptomaticpregnantwomenresidinginareaswithongoingZikavirustransmission,testingisrecommendedattheinitiationofprenatalcarewithfollow-uptestingmid-secondtrimester.LocalhealthofficialsshoulddeterminewhentoimplementtestingofasymptomaticpregnantwomenbasedoninformationaboutlevelsofZikavirustransmissionandlaboratorycapacity.Healthcareprovidersshoulddiscussreproductivelifeplans,includingpregnancyintentionandtiming,withwomenofreproductiveageinthecontextofthepotentialrisksassociatedwithZikavirusinfection.Suggestedcitationforthisarticle:OduyeboT,PetersenEE,RasmussenSA,etal.Update:InterimGuidelinesforHealthCareProvidersCaringforPregnantWomenandWomenofReproductiveAgewithPossibleZikaVirusExposure—UnitedStates,2016.MMWRMorbMortalWklyRep2016;65(EarlyRelease):1–6.DOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.15585/mmwr.mm6505e2er.
